Needle Exchange
Needle Exchange
Stockport's main needle exchange is based in the Community Drug Team. This needle exchange is open the same hours as the Drug Team and offers a range of specialist services.
As well as providing clean needles, injecting equipment, and sharps boxes, the staff offer health advice and information. Advice on safe sex is available - as are free condoms.
Injecting drug users are at risk of Hepatitis A, B and C and are also at risk of contracting HIV. Vaccinations can be given to prevent Hepatitis A and B. People can be tested for Hepatitis C - and given treatment where necessary. HIV testing is also available on request.
There are also 10 community needle exchanges in pharmacies across Stockport - these offer the basic service of providing clean equipment. Most will also dispense methadone and some offer a supervised consumption service.
